Football: Barclays League division one-Light Stars almost sure of keeping first division place |13 October 2007

The first decent opportunity fell to Northern Dynamo in the 11th minute as some good approach play set up Malagasy Assman Todisoa, who was making his return following an injury, but his cross was cleared by a retreating defender.

Three minutes later, Light Stars had a better chance as Renick Esther set up Congolese midfielder Magnifique Ndikumana and he blazed his shot wide in a good scoring position.

In the 13th minute, Renick Esther again threatened as Northern Dynamo’s goalie Jake Constance raced out but failed to block the young striker’s cross which dropped invitingly to Collin Esther whose volley flew over the cross-bar with the goal begging.
Light Stars had a good call for a penalty turned down as Remy Nibourette fought for a high ball and was shoved in the back but their appeal fell on deaf ears.

Both teams tried to be more offensive in the second period and Northern Dynamo went agonisingly close in the 64th minute as Evans Télémaque released Todisoa but Light Stars’ ‘keeper Denis Fideria was quick off his line to clear the danger.

Seven minutes later, the same Todisoa should have scored as he latched onto Malagasy Hassman Abdou’s through-ball but again goalie Fideria got a hand to his weak shot.
In the 79th minute, defender Damien Tamboo let fly with a long range effort but goalie Fideria produced a finger -tip save.

Light Stars also had a glorious opportunity in the 84th minute as Hugh Jeanne eluded a defender to fire narrowly wide when he should have hit the target.

On the stroke of full-time Tamboo again had a superb chance as he met Abdou’s floated corner unchallenged but he failed to convert.

Deep in injury time, Light Stars thought they had stolen all the points as Jeanne rammed home Kevin Prosper’s long cross, but their celebration was short-lived as the goal was disallowed for a clear offside.

As the two sets of players marched off at the end of the match, goalie Constant was shown the red card for having a go at the officials.

The two teams meet again tomorrow in the fourth round of the Land Marine Cup.
