Saturn’s ‘Ou pa pou zanmain regrete’ album out |10 November 2007
When was the last time then they produced such kind of work?
“It dates back to 1986. That’s a long time. In the meantime, we’ve worked on different projects for the festive season. Songs on this album are of different topics – culture, love, humour and more. There’s not one song about the festive season. It also has nothing political. We’ve worked on an album for all Seychellois to enjoy at anytime and anywhere. This is what the Saturn band has always done and will continue to do,” said keyboard player Georges Payet.
Georges added that he would have liked that all four brothers feature on the album but unfortunately youngest brother Ron could not as he was stuck on Mahe when the others, who are based on Praslin, were working on the album.
Georges as well as brothers France and Francis all perform solo at various hotels on Praslin, and as such it is much more easier for them to work together when the need arises.
“We respect each other and although we all perform solo, we stay united as brothers. It is this kind of attitude and the liberty we have to express ourselves the way we want to that help make a beautiful combination when we decide to work on a project. Don’t forget that Philip Toussaint used to be the lead guitarist with Saturn. We are not rivals. We appreciate what each one of us is doing. Hopefully the Saturn line-up will be complete when we come out with our next album,” added Georges, who noted that sister Maude sings the song Si Ou Tann Mwan Kriye and another sister, Miranda, did the backing vocals on some other songs.
Speaking of the album entitled ‘Ou pa pou zanmain regrete’, Georges said that Saturn fans will not regret buying a copy because they will enjoy every song.
He added that he expects the sale of the album, which includes old and new songs and other songs (such as those written for past Festival Kreol song contests but had never been recorded on CDs), to go well because “there is a market for every artiste. Although it will take some time for us to reap the reward, we are confident it will be a success. I call on all those who would like to listen to the album to buy an original copy so that Seychellois artistes can benefit from the work they produce.”
Asked to comment on how healthy he sees Seychelles’ music at present, Georges said:
“I take my hats off to all those who are trying hard.
They are all doing a good job. I’ve heard about ‘pti men’ and I don’t know if there are ‘pti girl’ also, but they are all doing good work. Music is all about bringing the ambiance people want when going out or when partying. They are doing just that. I’m sure one day they will reach somewhere.”
Saturn’s new album is on sale at all usual outlets on Mahe, Praslin and La Digue at R125.
As the festive season is fast approaching, Georges has said that the Saturn band will soon release a CD with a compilation of songs that people enjoy during this time of the year.
