Ale lazenes Seselwa! |19 July 2008
The ceremony was graced by the presence of President James Michel, Vice-President Joseph Belmont, speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Herminie and government ministers, among other guests.
Apart from officially presenting the Seychelles team and delegation at the two-yearly games, the ceremony was also an occasion to wish all the Seychellois athletes the best of luck and to urge them to make Seychelles proud.
In his speech for the occasion, Minister for Community Development, Youth, Sports and Culture Vincent Meriton urged the athletes not to be ensnared by temptations but to let themselves be ruled by the spirit of fair play and honesty at all times.
“After all, youths must be clean, sports must be clean and we must come out clean,” said Mr Meriton.
On behalf of the Seychelles team, student Hilary Lesperance from La Digue thanked the country’s leaders for their support and for believing in them, as testified by their presence at the ceremony.
And as the Seychelles team and delegation get ready to settle in the games village while they await D-day, they can rest assured that the whole Seychellois nation is behind them all the way! Ale lazenes Seselwa!
