German radio station comes up with new angle for paradise holiday -One wrong answer sends contest winners home from Seychelles |23 August 2008
It’s all part of a new competition angle dreamt up by popular German station Hit Radio FFH, which broadcasts pop music from its Frankfurt base.
During the whole of August its listeners can win a free holiday in Seychelles by entering a lucky draw – two couples are chosen to fly each Friday on Germany’s Condor airline.
But there is a catch…each couple has to answer a question live via satellite during Hit Radio’s Saturday morning show. The winners get to stay for a week at the Beachcomber St Anne Resort and Spa, but the other couple are flown back the same day.
Would you know the answer to the question: “What percentage of men think they look good in swimming trunks?” According to a survey, the correct answer is 50%.
The couple that came closest to this figure in the August 9 contest – Nicole and Stefan – were allowed to stay, but Andreas and Michaela had to leave.
The question was phoned to their guest rooms at the St Anne resort and neither couple came close, but the answer of 27% from Nicole (36) and boyfriend Stefan (32) was good enough to win as their rivals guessed 25%.
Andreas and Michaela received a complementary dinner, a coco de mer and other souvenirs as consolation prizes before they left Seychelles on Condor’s return flight shortly before midnight the same day.
Both couples flew into the International Airport with radio host Silvia Stenger, and each Saturday until September 6 two more couples will arrive to face the same contest.
The Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) is coordinating the activities, while all flights are
sponsored by Condor and all accommodation by Beachcomber Hotels – a total
value of more than €280,000 (over R3.3 million).
The contest is covered extensively by Radio FFH and accompanied by interviews and reports, both on radio and on the station’s website, www.ffh.de, which also carries the entire Hit Radio programme.
FFH (which stands for Funk & Fernsehen Hessen) was established in the state of Hesse
in 1988 and started broadcasting in 1989. With 588,000 listeners per hour, Hit Radio FFH is the leading radio station in the state.
