Total Sport-sponsored Seychelles Handball Federation (SHF) Cup-AC Brothers make intention known

Last Saturday, they were in action again – this time in the Total Sport-sponsored Seychelles Handball Federation (SHF) Cup – and they triumphed.

It was the turn of new league champions Duranta Brothers to take a beating from AC Brothers, who have made known their intention of defending their cup and they really meant business!!

With reigning male player Revens Louise doing the damage with a game-high 13 goals although he arrived late for the game, defending champions AC Brothers beat Duranta Brothers 36-27.

Defended by Freddy Annette, airborne Louise did the damage with a game-high 13 goals for AC Brothers

Skipper and goalkeeper Paolo Moustache did a good job in goal for AC Brothers, who had a one-goal – 16-15 – lead.

Dott Melanie got eight goals from Duranta Brothers, who now need to win against PLS Hurricanes in their second group A match to harbour the hope of making the semifinals.

AC Brothers will also play PLS Hurricanes and a win will assure them first place.
In a men’s group B encounter, ABS Kings took an option to finish top by edging APC Brothers 40-37.

Skippered by Joel Dodin, Anse Boileau-based ABS Kings led 21-15 at half-time and they got 16 goals from Cyril Freminot, while player/coach Tony Hortère finished with a game-leading 21 goals for APC Brothers, whose captain is skillful Gino Bastienne.

APC Brothers are expected to meet Super 8 in their second group B match later this week.

In the women’s competition, defending champions Rybar were not in action as they are in Madagascar taking part in the Indian Ocean Club Championship.

Rybar, who have been drawn in pool A for the cup competition after retaining their league title, should have no trouble reaching the semifinals when they return to the country and resume play. But last Saturday the young APC Sisters team shocked PLS Hurricanes Sisters.

Runners-up in the league, PLS Hurricanes Sisters got four goals from skipper Marie-Claire Chetty, but they just could not get things going as they fell 10-23.

Angela Nicette led all scores with eight goals for APC Sisters, captained by Effie Camille.

In the other ladies’ game, Arsu were paced by former player of the year and captain Thelma Sauzier with 15 goals in a 29-15 win against Trinity, who got 10 goals from Christelle Sedgwick.

The two teams are expected to meet again during the course of the week to decide the group B winners. Under the captaincy of May-Rose Sinon, Trinity can only finish first if they get at least a 15-point margin win in the second game.
