Barry releases follow-up to Nobody’s Child |30 November 2008
Here is the answer, a new CD titled It’s a Beautiful Day, containing 19 beautifully produced and performed popular songs. They are: Beautiful Sunday, All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down, Rivers of Babylon, Almost Persuaded, A Better Way, I Can’t Help it, Living on Love, Sing Me Back Home, Rose Garden, Mockin’ Bird Hill, Peace in the Valley, Proud Mary, Seven Spanish Angels, My Old Kentucky Home, Blanket on the Ground, Don’t Tell Me What to Do, Wings of a Dove, Honey Do You Love as Good as You Look? and You Win Again.
These songs are licensed from MCPS/PRS in the UK, and Barry Laine has produced the CD to international standards.
Barry says it took six months to achieve this level of quality, especially getting the artists to sing with the right diction and pronunciation to prepare the CD for international release.
He goes on to say that Seychelles is full of talent, but we have not exploited our talent to the full because we do not believe in our fantastic capabilities. The Seychelles National Choir needs more exposure to bring out its talent, and on this CD its members show how well they can adapt to singing pop songs as well as showing their classical singing talent.
Then the musicians and singers we have in Seychelles are also under-used because there are nowadays very few venues for them to demonstrate their talent.
The sad thing is there is no replacement taking place – older musicians are retiring and new ones are not coming forward. Youngsters these days prefer to listen to music on their MP3 rather than learn to play an instrument.
For example, when Jack Yokowo retires, there is no youngster ready to take his place playing the steel guitar so what do we do then? Maybe we should consider a scholarship for steel guitar playing, then perhaps we will attract a replacement for Jack.
At the end of the day we have to preserve our musical talents because rhythm is in the soul and Seychellois have the rhythm built into their souls. The reaction to this new CD so far has been extremely encouraging, some say better than the last one. Judge it for yourself.
This CD is being promoted by: High Performance Promotion, The Wishing Well, Anse Des Genets, Mahe, Seychelles. Contact: Barry Laine, phone 00248 515616
Some of these songs date back a long time but they have been revived and given the modern country and western flavour with added orchestral and brass treatment to bring them up to current international standards.
Listen to the talents we have in Seychelles and then tell me what you think of our singers and musicians.
Listen to the new rising star Angelique singing sometimes three harmonies!
