Ethiopian Gebre-egziabher Gebremarian, 24, won the race in 35:02 to earn US $30,000 as the individual champion. Ugandan Moses Nadiema Kipsiro and Eritrean Zersenay Tadese, who was the 2007 champion, finished second and third but were given identical time of 35:04.
The silver medallist picked up US $15,000 and the bronze winner got US $10,00.
The women’s senior 8km race winner was Kenyan Florence Jebet Kiplagat in 26:13 and she was followed home by compatriot Linet Chepkwemoi Masai in 26:16. Third was Ethiopian Meselech Melkamu in 26:19.
In the male junior 8km race, Ethiopian Ayele Abshero crossed the finish line first in 23:26, four seconds faster than runner-up Titus Kipjumba Mbishai of Kenya (23:30), while Ugandan Moses Kibet settled for third place with 23:35.
Ethopian Genzebe Dibaba won the female junior 6km race in 20:14, followed in second and third places by Kenyans Mercy Cherono (20:17) and Jackline Chepngeno (20:27).
