Cricket: Vijay Construction Tournament-Vijay steal nine-wicket win over Kings |30 May 2009

The day started off with drizzle and overcast skies. Eden Kings’ captain Tim Horpinitch won the toss and chose to bat first.

Unfortunately for him, things did not go as planned and Kings were out cheaply with their star batsmen underperforming – Hari scoring only six runs and both Prakash and Tim out without troubling the scorers.

Such was the case until a gutsy performance from the ever-reliant Charles, who scored a well-deserved 22 runs off 21 balls. He was well supported by the super-solid Christian, who scored 14 runs off 23 balls and Khan, who scored 13 runs.

Despite this, Vijay continued to tighten the screw, and Eden Kings were finally all out for 74 runs in the 21st over. In reply to this target, Vijay’s batsmen took no time in getting stuck into the Kings’ bowling and reached the target in the 10th over with the loss of only one wicket.

The only wicket to fall was that of Mukesh, who was bowled for six runs by Tim in the first over. The two batsmen who took Vijay through, with some sensible batting, were Bhupinder and Govind, who scored 28 and 29 respectively.

It has to be noted that the pick of the bowlers for Vijay was their captain whose figures were: four overs, one maiden and four wickets. He was followed by the two opening bowlers: Mukesh with four overs, two maidens and two wickets, and Laxman with four overs, one maiden and one wicket.

For his effective and economical bowling, Arvind was adjudicated the man of the match.
The next match of the tournament will be between 777 and Luckstars tomorrow at Roche Caïman.
