Seychelles’ ambassador accredited in Indonesia |11 July 2009
After the accreditation ceremony on June 19, Mr Esparon spoke to Dr Yudhoyono about the bilateral ties between Seychelles and Indonesia, the threat pose by climate change and its impact on small island states like Seychelles.
The ambassador also talked of ways to improve relations between Seychelles and Indonesia.
Mr Esparon, who met several ministers and top officials of the Indonesian government, was accompanied by Seychelles’ honorary consul to Indonesia, Nico Barito.
Indonesia and Seychelles established diplomatic relations in December 1985 and signed an agreement on economic and technical cooperation in April 1996.
The two countries signed a double taxation avoidance agreement in September 1999, which came into force in April 2000.
Seychelles imports food, clothes/textiles and electrical goods from Indonesia.
Ambassador Esparon is convinced there are many avenues open for further cooperation between the two countries, especially in areas such as higher education and training, tourism, trade and investment.
