Catholic church helps in fight against drugs

A series of talks to help the Diocese of Victoria with the project is being led by Jose Ah-Choun, director of the Centre Rehabilitation de Terre Rouge, Mauritius.

He is here at the request of Bishop Denis Wiehe to advise on setting up the centre and to meet people affected by drug and other substance abuse.

The centre will aim to help addicts improve their lives so they can be rehabilitated into society.
Talks have been held at the Montagne Posee prison, at Care House, in districts such as Anse Aux Pins and Pointe Larue, and on Praslin and La Digue.

Mr Ah-Choun also addressed the congregation on Sunday during a mass and met a group of people at the priests’ residence (The Domus) yesterday.

He has shared his experiences of the situation in Mauritius concerning drug abuse and given advice on how to improve matters here.

Those attending the talks were given the chance to share their experiences, ask questions and seek advice on how to deal with their own situations.

Mr Ah-Choun is set to leave Seychelles tomorrow after completing his one-week mission.
