Death of former South Korean president-President Michel sends message of condolence |19 August 2009

President Michel’s message reads:
“It is with deep sorrow and regret that we have learnt of the passing away of former President Kim Dae-jung.

“President Kim Dae-jung was a leading statesman, a charismatic leader and a man of vision who transformed Korea into a modern, stable and prosperous nation. The tremendous achievements of Korea testify to his wisdom and vision.

“The government and people of the Republic of Seychelles join me in conveying our deepest condolences to you, personally, to the government and people of the Republic of Korea as well as to the family of the late Kim Dae-jung.”

Kim, who died at the age of 85, had been in hospital with pneumonia since last month. He suffered respiratory distress, a pulmonary embolism and multiple organ failure.
