Ex-president guest at World Future Award night |10 October 2009
The future policy award of the WFC honours exemplary laws that promote equity and sustainability. Each year the council selects one topic of critical political concern and receives nominations from all over the world for the best policies on this issue.
This year the topic chosen was solutions to the food crisis and the fight against poverty, and the award went to Brazil for the food security programme in the state of Belo Horizonte.
The Mayor of Belo Horizonte, who is a minister in the Brazilian government, was in Hamburg to receive the prize.
From Hamburg, Mr Mancham left for Prague in the Czech Republic to attend the Forum 2000 conference at the invitation of former Czech president Vaclav Havel on the theme of Democracy and freedom in a multi-polar world.
Mr Mancham, who has been invited to speak on multi-polarity and human rights, is expected back in Seychelles on October 17.
