Last steps to launch of district task forces

Last Thursday’s meeting for the East and Central 2 regions

Principal secretaries for social development Linda William and community development Olsen Vidot chaired the meeting last Thursday for the East and Central 2 regions, which include Mont Fleuri, Cascade, Plaisance, Roche Caïman, Pointe Larue, Anse Aux Pins, Au Cap and Les Mamelles.

District administrators, youth leaders, social workers and others involved discussed the work already being done by various groups in the districts and looked at ways to coordinate it better.

It was also an opportunity for those present to seek clarification and ask questions on various issues concerning their work.
Addressing those present, Ms William said a lot is being done in the districts, but faced with the rise of social ills there is a need to review the mechanisms that are in place.

She said after the amount of concern raised on this issue at the recent district consultative meetings with President James Michel, it is time everybody takes ownership of what is happening in the communities.

“Everyone needs to feel concerned, involved and ready to give a helping hand,” she said.
Emphasising Ms William’s point, Mr Vidot said everyone should feel unease faced with the continued increase of social problems reported in the communities.

He said many people have an indifferent attitude to what is happening around them until the scourge hits their household and a member of their family is involved or is a victim.

He said the time has come, prompted by President Michel’s call for action, for every movement working in the districts to pool their resources and work in a united way.

The district task forces will be launched during a workshop tomorrow.
