Cristina Appoo, representing the children’s clothing and toy shop on Market Street, collected the prize – a return air ticket to France – yesterday at the Mayor’s Office at Oceangate House, in the presence of Mayor of Victoria Marie-Antoinette Alexis.

Ms Appoo said they won first prize last year and it is encouraging to get it again. They always decorate the shop, as children like it very much, but during the Christmas season they make a special effort, she added.

Kidstuff is owned by Caroline Chetty and the shop’s prize was sponsored by Air France.
The News Café, based in Trinity House, took second prize – a laptop sponsored by the Development Bank of Seychelles.

Kingsgate House won a television set and DVD as third prize, sponsored by Sacos, and Casa Décor at the Orion Mall won fourth prize – a book about the outer islands of Seychelles and a painting sponsored by the Seychelles Islands Foundation.

Rassin Sinon, director of operations at the Mayor’s Office, said since the start of the competition in 2008 shops in town have made more effort when putting up decorations during Christmas and the New Year.

He said the competition, organised by the Mayor’s Office, encourages business owners to beautify their premises and make Victoria look more attractive.

When judging, they focus on the artistic and aesthetic arrangements and also on the lighting used, he added.
