Cricket: Eden Island Shield-Four Seasons beat Golden Oldies |24 April 2010
Four Seasons captain Sohan Halpe won the toss and invited Golden Oldies to bat first. Once again, Ruwin Akalanke bowled beautifully to take four wickets at the cost of only four runs per over. Four Seasons bowling battalions of Joseph, Ajith and Sanjeewa Malagoda bowled well and took two wickets each. Finally, Four Seasons managed to limit Golden Oldies to 101 runs.
When Four Seasons batted, they lost two early wickets to the good tight balling of Golden Oldies’ fast bowler. Certainly the Oldies must have recalled the good old days when they dominated the sport for their various teams. However, Four Seasons showed good sprit to fight back from an early set-back.
For the third match in a row, Janaka top-scored for Four Seasons with 32 runs and this included two boundaries and two big sixes. Sanjeewa Rathnayeke also performed well with quick-fire double figures to put Four Seasons back on track. Finally, Four Seasons reached the target of 102 in 23.1 over.
