STB backs new phone application to help visitors |03 July 2010
This new Leisure & Business phone application for Seychelles will feature general information about the destination – including a business directory – a location service with Google maps, live weather forecasts, plus all the latest offers and tourism events.
This new technology, recently developed by a UK company called Grapple, enables any application to be downloaded on all major smart phones on the market.
The new service will be available from August 25, and the application will be free to download on such brands as iPhone, BlackBerry, Nokia, Samsung, Motorola and Sony Ericsson. It will also be available to use worldwide through different platforms such as the well-known Apple store.
Businesses in Seychelles will have the chance to be part of this exciting application and promote their products under two categories, which will appear as pages.
Firstly, the Business Directory will give users information on whatever is available on the market. Whether one is looking for a restaurant, hotel or any other business, the browsing will be simple and quick because all signed-up businesses will have their own pages which can be updated at any time.
The page will include a short paragraph describing the business and will give contact details with direct links to their email address and website. Users will also be able to locate the business on the island map at a click.
Secondly, the Tourism News and Offers category will keep people informed at all times on the events taking place, as well as ongoing offers.
Laurent Alis, creator of the Leisure & Business phone application, said both visitors and local people will benefit greatly from this new service as information will be readily available on their phones.
“Whoever you are and wherever you are, the Leisure & Business phone application will provide you with a quick and easy way to access information in Seychelles and see what businesses are available,” he said.
The new chief executive of the STB, Alain St Ange, has described this initiative as an added boost to making our visitors’ stay on our islands as pleasant as possible. They will have useful information at their fingertips, which will enable them to better plan and enjoy their holidays.
“Instead of consulting a map, brochure or website, for example, they can get the information from their phones. They can browse to find locations of restaurants or places to visit,” he said.
“We find this new application to be very useful and we are positive it will be a plus for our visitors.”
