Table tennis: August challenge-Fostel, Gabriel triumph |01 September 2010
On Sunday at the Omnisports Gym, Fostel won three matches in the men’s division one round-robin competition. Second was Dario Laurence with two wins.
Male table tennis player of the year Godfrey Sultan, who won last month’s challenge, did not compete as he is in China on a training camp. Young Anil Nibourette is also in China, along with Janice Mellie and Christy Bristol.
A loser to Doreena Robert in the July final, Gabriel dominated the three-player women’s division one league with three wins and Natifa Moumou finished second.
Nicholas Esther was the boys’ division two winner following his 3-2 (11-8, 7-11, 9-11, 11-5, 14-12) victory over Bryon Mousbé in the final, and Shane Barallon finished third after beating Sébastien Larue 3-2 (11-4, 10-12, 7-11, 11-6, 11-4) in the third place play-off match.
The boys’ three division was won by Shawn Zarine after his 3-1 (11-5, 11-4, 9-11, 11-5) victory over Jean-Luc Dine.
Ryan Jouanneau went home with the bronze medal when he edged Shawn Lai Lam 3-2 (11-4, 10-12, 7-11, 11-6, 11-4) in the third-place decider.
A new girls’ division two was contested by newcomers, and Stephanie Hoareau emerged as the winner with three wins in as many games in the round-robin league.
Eliza Duprès (two wins) and Angelique Volcy (one win) finished second and third.
