Tennis: Vijay League tournament-It’s Eden Island’s title |22 October 2010

The winners were decided in the third decisive doubles match as the two teams were tied 1-1 after the two singles matches.
Club 2000’s Selwyn Lespoir beat Jordy DiGiorji 2-0 (6-0, 6-0) and Eden Island’s Tim Horpinitch defeated Maxwell Fock-Tave 2-0 (6-1, 6-2).

In the doubles match, Horpinitch teamed up with Stephan Djikstra to beat the pair of Lespoir and Selwyn Knowles 2-0 (6-3, 7-5) to win the title.

In the semifinals, Club 2000 edged The Wookies 2-1 and Eden Island won by the same scoreline against the Lift & Slice team.
Winners Eden Island will get prize-money of R3,500, while runners-up Club 2000 will receive R2,400.
Lift & Slice (third) and The Wookies (fourth) will each get R1,800.

In the women’s competition, because of a tie in the final score, the Golden Girls and Strikers teams will share the first and second prizes. This means they will each receive R2,950.

Third-placed Friends and fourth-placed Side-Out 2000 will get R1,800 apiece.

Horpinitch of the Eden Island team and Mary-May Isnard of the Golden Girls team have each won cash prizes of R1,000 after being chosen as the best male and female players of the tournament.

All prizes will be given out during the end-of-year party that will take place at the Golden Plate Restaurant at Maison Football, Roche Caïman, on Thursday December 9.
