Hotel fined over water pollution |04 November 2010

When the pollution was reported, immediate action was taken by the Department of Environment, together with the Seychelles Tourism Board, the Ministry of Health and the Seychelles Licensing Authority.

Environment pollution enforcement officers were deployed, together with health inspectors, to assess the situation and give the hotel managers clear instructions to stop the pollution.

This was done after the hotel called in a contractor to pump and dispose of the waste water.

Following verbal instructions, an enforcement letter was sent to the hotel managers on Tuesday November 2 with a list of measures that must be taken. A team of representatives from various government sections has been set up to make sure this is done.

The Department of Environment said in a press release yesterday that failure by the hotel managers to take the required steps will lead to strict legal action being taken against them.
