Accountants form new association |05 November 2010
Its aims under its approved rules and regulations are to:
- Supervise and regulate the accountancy profession in Seychelles;
- Promote the highest standards of professional and business conduct of accountants and improve the quality of services they offer;
- Make representations to government and related bodies about legislative or other measures affecting businesses in general.
At its first general meeting, the following were elected: Bernard L. Pool of Pool & Patel – chairperson; Nazrah B. Ramdin of BDO Associates – vice-chairperson; Jalan V. Nathan of the Islands Development Company – secretary; Eddy Mancienne of Advanced Business Solutions – treasurer; and councillors John Richardson of Halpern & Woolf, John Hipwaye of Hipwaye & Associates, Mahesh Jayawardana of the Public Utilities Corporation, Kalyan Kumar Mitra of the Sunset Hotel Group, Choo Veh Ken of the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort and Norazman Chung of Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay.
Membership is open to all accountants working in Seychelles and to all licensed firms of auditors and accountants practising here.

The association is already in talks with the Ministry of Finance about the impending VAT legislation and other taxation matters.
The association said membership will provide an excellent forum for accountants to express their views on business-related matters, which can only be for the ultimate benefit of Seychelles.
