Water to be transferred by barge to Victoria |19 November 2010

The level of the dam is now at 25%, and with the restrictions in place for north and central Mahe it is reducing by 0.4% every day.

With the help of the Islands Development Company (IDC) and the Fire Brigade, the PUC will this week start transferring water from the L’Islette treatment plant to Victoria by the Enterprise II, which will be docked in Port Launay bay.

Enterprise II is an IDC barge that has the capacity to transfer 400kl of water, which will be stored in a specially sanitised tank at the Indian Ocean Tuna company. Bowsers that supply the north and central areas will now get water from this tank instead of the line connected to the Hermitage treatment plant.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Health, the PUC is taking all necessary precautions to ensure the required standards are met. However, it is advising its customers to boil the water before drinking it.

The bowser schedule for domestic customers can be consulted at the district administration offices or at the PUC’s customer service unit in Victoria.
