SBC broadcast of Sesel I Annan Talan called off |14 May 2011
As a result, public voting for the contestants will not be able to take place.
A press release from the Foundation said it was informed yesterday by the SBC that the Office of the Electoral Commissioner and its Electoral Advisory Board had resolved that in “view of the prevailing election process, the show should not be broadcast live on television,” and had instructed SBC to call off the broadcast.
“The Jj Spirit Foundation expresses its profound disappointment with the Electoral Commissioner’s decision as it comes one day before the show, which did not give ample time for the Foundation to organise alternative arrangements,” said the press release.
According to the press release, the decision of the electoral commission came after the Seychelles National Party (SNP) had lodged an objection.
“However, the show itself cannot be postponed at this short notice due to the costs incurred for production of the event,” added the press release.
This year’s Sesel I Annan Talan show is raising funds for a youth who was involved in a road accident in January.
The money raised will be used to fund his medical treatment abroad.
He is expected to leave for treatment later this month.
