Register with SRC for taxation e-service |27 August 2012
This is one among other facilities that SRC offers taxpayers to make use of and enhance compliance. With this facility in place, it allows taxpayers to submit their monthly payroll on-line electronically instead of coming to the offices of the SRC when payments are due.
How to access the taxation e-service?
For employers to access the taxation e-service they first need to register for an e-Identification Number (e-ID) so as to get an access code and a password.
The e-ID is the organisation's unique identifier for on-line transactions with government e-service. The password is the organisation’s secret code to login to the e-service gateway and both the e-ID and the password can be shared among the employees who are transacting online on behalf of the organisation. On the other hand, the Access Code is the unique electronic identifier for the authorised employee of the organisation transacting with the on-line service on behalf of the organisation and must only be known to the person who registered for the taxation e-service access.
How to register for an e-ID?
Registration for an e-ID is carried out at the advisory centre. To register, the person authorised by the organisation must bring his/her Identification (ID) card along with an authorisation letter signed by either the owner of the private sector or the head of the public sector of their organisation.
Upon registration, the authorised person will be provided with a printout of the registration details and a copy will be sent via their e-mail address provided to SRC by the authorised person. The e-mail address must be the personal’s official e-mail address of that person and not the general official e-mail address of the organisation.
Can a business with its own payroll system interface with the taxation e-service?
The taxation e-service accepts only a specific payroll format. Businesses which have an electronic payroll system should contact SRC for details of the electronic file format required to allow data from their payroll system to be uploaded via the e-service
How secure is the e-service?
The e-service is a very secure gateway. Only authorised personnel at SRC and authorised personnel of the organisation can have access to it. The security mechanism of the e-service is based on the following:
Credentials: Which proves who the employee is, and establishes if that employee is authorised to use the taxation e-service.
Verification and Activation: Before an organisation can access the taxation e-service, their identity needs to be verified after registration.
Security Levels: Each e-service has a security level to determine its authentication mechanism.
No other unauthorised employee or personnel can access the organisation’s e-service. The confidentiality of information provided on the payroll remains as such.
What are the benefits of using taxation e-service?
The e-service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week via the internet and therefore enables the organisation to upload the payroll on time and much faster. It is a secure gateway where only the authorised personnel of the organisation and the authorised personnel of SRC will have access to.
Furthermore, it enables the taxpayer to cross check payment of taxes that has been remitted to SRC on behalf of their employees.
When is payroll due?
It is very important that employers submit their payroll to SRC by the 21st day of the following month. When submitting payroll online, please ensure that it is submitted by the due date.
