Airtel rewards long-serving staff |11 December 2013

The telecommunication business Airtel has rewarded employees who have spent five, 10 and 15 years in the company.

The ceremony, which also coincided with Airtel Seychelles’ 15th anniversary this month, was held last week at the Maison de Football at Roche Caiman, in the presence of the Minister for Social Affairs, Community Development and Sports Vincent Meriton, the Minister for Labour and Human Resource Development Idith Alexander and the managing director (MD) of Airtel Vikram Sinhare.

Ryan Charlette and Andrea Elizabeth were rewarded as Airtel’s longest serving employees. They have in fact spent 16 years with the company as they started working before Airtel’s Seychelles branch was opened. Their expertise has been described as instrumental in the realisation of Airtel’s first telephone call back in 1998.

Erna Hoareau, Nita Farabeau, Samantha Hardy, Sarah Alcindor, Govindaraju Dharmalingham and Gail Talma-Jumeau are the employees with 15 years of service. While Maxime Morel has spent 10 years in the company, Randy Brice, Kevin Jolicoeur, Noella Lajoie, Joseph Souffe have been around for five years.

During the ceremony, Airtel also presented its Employer of the Month Awards for the months of June to September 2013. The awardees were Maryse Marie (June), Jude Marie (July), Russell Octave (August), and Randy Brice (September).

During the course of this year Airtel Seychelles received a regional award as the operating company with the best internet data in Africa. Denis Naidu, Erna Hoareau, Vineesh Krishnan, Sandanam Pillay, Selby Jeremie and Tania Louise were recognised for the role they have played in this achievement.

In a short presentation, Mr Sinhare traced the company’s successes internationally as well as its achievements during the 15 years of existence in Seychelles.

He recalled the launch of mobile services in India in 1996, to becoming the 4th world telecommunication operator today.

On the local scene, from the first mobile phone call made by President James Michel 15 years ago when he was then Minister responsible for Communications, Airtel now offers a variety of high technology products and services.

Mr Sinhare also announced that Airtel will shortly be launching a new and innovative product called ‘Airtel Money’. The facility will function as a credit banking service via telephone, whereby you deposit money with Airtel and your account is kept on your mobile phone. Consequently you can use your hand set as a credit card for your shopping and bill payment.
