First carnival masquerade ball to be a popular event |09 April 2014
For the first time since Seychelles is holding the Carnaval International de Victoria a carnival masquerade ball is being organised for this year’s event.
This is an initiative of Organisers Seychelles, a new local event management and PR business specialising in public relations, corporate events and conferences. Organisers Seychelles consists of five members who manage different activities of the business.
The ball to be held at Eden Plaza Complex at Eden Island on the evening after activities to launch this year’s carnival is being organised in close collaboration with the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB). The event will take place on Friday April 25, 2014 from at 8pm to 1am.
Speaking to Seychelles Nation recently, Terence Cedras, who manages the Food & Beverage activities, and Neddy Nourice, executive director for communications and events operations, both from the Organisers Seychelles said “it will be a grand evening of dancing all night long”.
Tickets for the event are already on sale at R600.
“Complimentary of the ticket will be a welcoming drink and finger foods such as mini kebabs, sandwiches chicken pieces …which would be served throughout the whole evening starting from 9pm,” added Mr Cedras.
Ms Nourice further mentioned that people will dance to the tunes of the Collective Soul Band being the local band for the event. However, four international performers who will be in the country for the carnival itself will also perform live that evening.
Ms Nourice proudly said that “the international performers will be a surprise for those present for the first carnival masquerade ball’’.
Carnival masquerade ball originates from Brazil in the late 1960s when people used to hide their true identities which often were of high status so they could take part in the carnival and enjoy themselves without being identified. They would dress in colourful and extravagant carnival attires and costumes.
“We plan for this to happen in Seychelles where people of different status in society could come and enjoy themselves without having to worry about who they are. We plan to make this event a popular one and I am sure many people will turn up in their carnival costumes and masks to make this first event a great success. We also plan to make this a yearly event, but all will depend on the public’s response,” said Ms Nourice.
She clarified that people who do not have masks should not worry as they will be on sale at the entrance on that evening.
“We are encouraging the public to come in large numbers as they will not be disappointed. It will be something new and exciting. We want to prove that Seychellois people are good at anything we set our mind at,” MrCedras added.
Above all that Ms Nourice pointed out there will also be a costume and mask competition where three prizes will be up for grabs and there again everyone is being encouraged to bring their tickets with them.
“Our vision is to be the number one PR, events and conference management company in the Indian Ocean,” said Ms Nourice.
Tickets are on sale at the Maki shop at the Pirates Arms, Riccardo Carbognin Shop at Camion Hall, National Arts Council at the Stad Popiler car park, STB office at Independence House, Home Accessories at Providence and with members of Organiser Seychelles themselves who can be reached on 2581873/ 2762907/ 2585050/ 2599635.
