Seychelles-Italy relations very good, says new ambassador |30 April 2014

The newly accredited Italian ambassador to Seychelles, Mauro Massoni, has described the long existing relations between Italy and Seychelles as very good. Mr Massoni was speaking after presenting his credentials to President James Michel at State House yesterday.

“The relationship between Italy and the Republic of Seychelles has traditionally been very good in several sectors like fight against piracy and in United Nations programmes,” Mr Massoni told the press after his meeting with the president.

He said discussions he had with President Michel and the Minister for Foreign Affairs yesterday focused on Seychelles’ involvement in the Milan Expo next year, as well as collaboration in the area of the ‘Blue Economy’ Seychelles is pushing forward.

First held in London in 1851, the Expo is a universal exposition organised by a host nation to interpret collective challenges to mankind. In 2015 – 658 days to be exact – Italy will host the Expo in Milan under the theme ‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life’. This universal theme will display tradition, innovation and creativity in the food business. The Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), in 2008 awarded Milan the distinction of 2015 host city.

Mr Massoni will today call on the Speaker of the National Assembly Dr Patrick Herminie at the National Assembly headquarters at Ile du Port.
The Italian ambassador will be based in Nairobi.
