New location for Zonm Lib |06 June 2014

For the first time in 36 years, the usual wreath laying ceremony at the Liberation monument Zonm Lib to mark Liberation Day on June 5 did not take place on 5th of June Avenue but at the Maison du Peuple where the statue is now located.

It is to be recalled that the Zonm Lib was recently removed from its original location following a decision by the ruling Parti Lepep.

Announcing the move to relocate Zonm Lib, a communiqué from the Office of the President stated that the Liberation Monument “will continue to serve as a potent reminder of the core values of Seychelles’ struggle for independence and liberation, as well as a powerful symbol of the ideals and mission of Parti Lepep”.

It was Vice-President Danny Faure, who is also the secretary general of the ruling Parti Lepep who led the party’s representatives from all districts in the country for the wreath-laying ceremony yesterday.

Compared to previous years, the ceremony this year was rather subdued as only the ministers, chief executive officers, principal secretaries, the party’s National Assembly members and members of the party were present.
