Sepec introduces new LPG seal cap |28 June 2014

Effective July 1, 2014 the Seychelles Petroleum Company (Sepec) will be introducing new LPG seal caps in the form of ‘heat shrinkable capsules’ on all of its LPG cylinders.
The move forms part of a strategic effort to protect the cylinder valves from any potential tampering.

The designed shrinkable capsules which bear the Sepec logo are made from PVC type material and require special heating equipment to shrink while forming a durable plastic layer on the cylinder valves.

The shrinkable capsules can be easily opened by tearing the red tape through the vertical perforations along its length.

“These shrinkable capsules are widely used in the LPG industries and have been proven to be a very effective sealing application and it is from that aspect that the decision has been made to replace our current outmoded system as we move forward,” a communiqué from Sepec says.

These capsules provide numerous benefits for both Sepec and customers including:

• Protect the cylinder valves against any malicious attempt to open or counterfeit
• Excellent durability
• Quick and easy to open
• Can only be applied using special heating equipment
• Highly biodegradable compared to the previous application.

The stage to have all full cylinders with the new capsules will most likely take up to eight weeks as stockists replenish their current stocks. Members of the public are therefore being advised against purchasing any LPG cylinders which do not have the new seal caps by September 1, 2014.
