Karting - Gopal, Samsoodin victorious |16 October 2014

Kris Gopal (SF6) and Joshua Samsoodin (SF5) were victorious in round 8 of the 2014 karting championship held last weekend at the Champions Park Raceway, Roche Caïman.

In the SF5 class, Joshua Samsoodin dominated the field taking the lead from pole position for the final and after holding off Arnold Mein who started second, he gradually opened a large gap over the rest of the field and he held the lead right up to the chequered flag.

Anil Gonthier and Amadave Camille also put the pressure on Arnold Men towards the end of the race and it paid off as they got past him on the back straight two laps from the end.  Gonthier took second place and Camille finished third.

Mein settled for fourth position was lucky fifth-placed Shirin Azemia did not catch up with him. Clearly not in top form Dharmil finished sixth.

In the SF6 category, the format was slightly different as the drivers ran a knockout time trial and the winners from the two groups fought it out in a semifinal and the top-two progressed to the Final.

Kris Gopal took a narrow victory after his main challenger Christopher Rasool, who was on a very fast last lap. spun off into the Esses and lost time, though he must be proud to have finished a close second.

Fabio William finished third after being eliminated by Krisl in the semis, while lady driver Louisa Lafortune was fourth. Jacques Payet took fifth position with Jude Poris sixth, Wallace Servina seventh and Elzar Michel eighth.

In this min-championship, Kris leads the table with 67 points, followed by Payet, Rasool, Dorby, William, Servina, Poris, Lafortune, Morel and Michel.
The next event will be the qualifier for the Super Final scheduled in November.
