Nisa staff give Pointe Larue home for the elderly a facelift |16 October 2014
It is not easy for some organisations to find time to help others even though they would have liked to and this is especially true when you work in the media field. This is because most of the staff work long hours week days and weekends.
But last Saturday, the National Information Service Agency (Nisa) gathered most of its staff to clean the Pointe Larue home for the elderly and give it a fresh look. This was part of Nisa’s corporate social responsibility (CSR).
Among the staff who took part in the day’s activity were chief executive Merline Volcère, deputy chief executive/editor Gerard Govinden, human resources and administration director Thelma Estico and other members of staff and even family members of Nisa staff.
The team was divided into small groups to give a new coat of paint to the boundary wall, doors and window frames of the houses, clean the compound and even water pressure was used to remove stain and dirt.
The agency took the opportunity to donate cleaning materials like washing powder, bleach, mops, buckets and others to the residents. It was Mr Govinden who presented the cleaning materials to home administrator Gilberte Adela.
Central executive committee member for Pointe Larue Wills Agricole, members of the home’s board of trustees and management were also present.
The residents were so happy staff of the agency had come to offer their help and they did not hesitate to interact with the staff telling stories of their life. Two residents even showed us their vegetable gardens.
Mr Govinden said Nisa being a very young agency is doing its utmost to help in the community it serves.
“Although we are always busy with our work, it is good to find time to give back to the community, especially the elderly who have contributed so much to the development of the country. We have reached this far today because of their hard work and it is our duty to help them now,” said Mr Govinden.
Accountant Louisa Labiche said “the cleaning activity is a good opportunity to give back to the elders for their contributions made to our society.”
“I do hope that when I reach this stage in my life, the youngsters will give us the same treatment,” she added.
As for sports journalist Sedrick Nicette he said “the activity was a chance for the workers to mingle in a more relaxed environment and at the same time make their contribution towards a good cause.”
Meanwhile, the board of trustees, management and residents of the Pointe Larue home for the elderly have expressed their sincere gratitude for the huge donation of cleaning materials and equipment for all residents.
In a letter addressed to CEO Volcère, Ms Adela writes that the cleaning of all of the home’s apartments, painting of walls, painting of apartments, cleaning of pave ways has contributed to make the residents feel more comfortable as our objectives are to ensure that they live in peace, love and tranquillity.
“Once again we thank you, Mrs Thelma Estico and other support staff for this remarkable gesture. We seize the opportunity to thank all the sponsors who have contributed towards the wellbeing of our home. We count on your continued support and contribution. May God bless you and your company,” adds Ms Adela in her letter.
