Bodybuilding - Meckdachi heads to South Africa for Mr Olympia |23 October 2014

Reigning Mr Seychelles Ziad Meckdachi leaves the country today for South Africa where he will compete in the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) Mr Olympia Amateur Africa.

The bodybuilder competed in the event last year in Bahrain where he finished in fourth position and he told Sports Nation that he intends to do better this time around.

“I have had a lot of preparation for this competition, where I can say I had my very own local training camp for about a month and a half to really get into the best shape,” said Meckdachi.

“My aim therefore is to come back with a medal for Seychelles.”

Meckdachi has been preparing a lot for the competition, where his preparations even stopped him from defending the Mr Regatta title which was won by Rodney Henriette last month.

He did however confirm that he will be back on the local scene where he will be defending his Mr Seychelles title on November 7 at the International Conference Centre Seychelles (ICCS).

Meckdachi also told Sports Nation that his main future goal is to be able to be a professional bodybuilder, an achievement that could see him take part in the professional Mr Olympia – a competition made famous by the outstanding results of popular Austrian-born American actor and politician Arnold Schwarzenegger, who won the competition six times in a row in the 1970s, before starting his illustrious acting career.

The Mr Olympia in Johannesburg, South Africa will take place on October 25-26 and is an event that will contribute tremendously to the development of our sport in Africa, being open for African and Middle East IFBB national federations.
