With effect January 1 the police force will be restructured to include two new assistant commissioners under the deputy commissioner.

The Minister for Home Affairs and Transport Joel Morgan made the announcement yesterday afternoon after a meeting with police commissioner Ernest Quatre, his deputy brigadier Vernon Hunter and key police officers at the police headquarters.

Chief superintendent Godfra Hermitte will be responsible for support management which comprises human resources and physical resources while chief superintendent Reginald Elizabeth will be responsible for policing management which include visible policing, response services and detective services.

Minister Morgan confirmed that commissioner Ernest Quatre remains in his post and will continue to serve the force.

Other changes in the ranks and positions of key officers will be announced during the first weeks of January, Commissioner Quatre has said.

“The restructuring in the police force is another step in the continued modernisation programme of the police force. We are aiming towards a more dynamic, more professional and more effective police force so that it can better meet public expectations,” Minister Morgan said.

“Various aspects of commonality within the force have been grouped together as well as resources for a more effective output,” Minister Morgan noted.

He also said the police aims to have in 2015 a force which continues to evolve in response to the needs of the public, the different laws and different situations which arise.

“We need to be able to put criminality under control and also reduce it and ensure people continue to live in peace in their homes and the police need to deliver the quality of service as is required of them,” Minister Morgan pointed out.
