A-Level and IGCSE results |04 February 2015
Independent School records another excellent year
Last year was the first time that Independent School students attempted CIE A2 exams (Year 2 of the A-Level programme) and the final results are impressive, with 61% of all grades being between A* and B.
The AS students also achieved very good results, with 67% of all grades being at a ^ to c^.
Not to be outdone, the S5 students of 2014 delivered a very commendable performance as well, with an overall 99.7% pass rate, and 86% of all grades being at C and above (Distinction and Credit passes.).
For A-Level, 36 A2 students sat a total of 115 exam entries, of which 9 students sat for 4 subjects. 83% of the students achieved ‘C’s or higher.
Samuel Mancienne-Pool achieved brilliant results with 4 ‘A*’s. Other students who realised outstanding levels of performance are: Nicholas Adam who scored 2’A*’s and 2’A’s, Edley Carolla, Laurent Mein, Beatrice Morel and Richard Mussard were awarded 1A*, 2 ‘A’s and 1B each, followed by Joshua Larue with 3 ‘A’s and 1B, Stan Volcère with 2 ‘A’s and 2 ‘B’s and Aritra Das with 2 ‘A*’s and 1A.
In fact 22% of the students got 3 ‘A’s or better, a most remarkable outcome for this first A2 cohort, and 30 of them have acquired the required points to obtain scholarships from AHNRD.
Summary Table of A2 Results:
The Independent School has congratulated them for this fine performance and wished them all continued success as they proceed either to university or the world of work.
22 AS students sat a total of 82 exam entries, out of which 17 students sat for 4 subjects.
46% of the students achieved b^’s or higher. Sujitha Pillay achieved an excellent result with 4 a^’s.
Other high performances came from Bertrand Payet and Visaaly Pillay who scored 3 a^’s and 1 b^, followed by Letitia Stravens, Shane Barallon and Pierre Andre Belle with 2 a^’s and 2 b^’s.
The school applauds them for their very good performance and hope all the students continue working with even more effort as they prepare for the A2 exams in October/November.
Summary Table of AS Results:
As for IGCSE, of the 46 students who sat for the examinations in 2014, 42 (or 91%) obtained 5 or more grades between A* and C and 17 of them (or 36%) scored at least 5 ‘A’s and better.
43 students also qualify for the International Certificate of Education (ICE) award, 17 with Distinction, 25 with Merit and 1 Pass. To be awarded the ICE, a student must pass six or more IGCSE subjects from five different subject groups. This is to ensure that the students receive a broad education at this level.
86% of all grades are between A* and C – as shown in the table below. The top performers at IGCSE are the following six students (in descending order of ‘A*’s scored): Laurent Valentin, 9 ‘A*’s and 1 A; Alessia Lavigne, 8 ‘A*’s, 1A and 1B; Sean Pillay, 7 A* and 3 ‘A’s; Sarah Farook, 5 A* and 6 ‘A’s; Vadrine Boullé, 5 A* and 5 ‘A’s and 1B; Raina Dhanjee, 4 A*, 5 ‘A’s and 2 ‘B’s.
The table below gives a summary of the grades achieved:
The percentage of A* and A grades obtained is 43%, better than for the last two years, while 67.1% of all passes are between A* and B. This is comparable to 2013 and better than for some previous years.
At A2, we observe first-class performance in almost all subjects, while at AS very good grades were recorded in Physics, Maths, Chemistry, Biology, Geography and History.
The IGSCE results on the other hand show high scores in the two languages, as well as in Geography, Chemistry, Physics, ICT, Business Studies and Literature. The school congratulates all the students for their hard work and wish them the very best in their further studies and careers.
The school also warmly thanks the staff who, through their unstinting effort and dedication over the years, have ensured that the students performed to the very best of their abilities. Similarly, we recognise and sincerely appreciate the support and encouragement that we received from parents during the time that they entrusted their children’s education to us.
