Table Tennis - Sultan, Khattab get early season wins |12 March 2015

Godfrey Sultan and Zahira Khattab are the winners of the table tennis season-opening Curtain Raiser tournament held last weekend at the Roche Caïman Omni-gym.
Reigning male table tennis player of the year Godfrey Sultan was the men’s first division champion after dominating his final match against Bjorn Mousbe.
Sultan was superior in his play compared to his opponent, which enabled him to easily win the first set 11-4. Mousbe however gave a better account of himself in the second set, but ultimately Sultan was again victorious on a 12-10 score.
Sultan continued to push for the win and he won the next two sets 11-5 and 11-6, to win the match on a 4-0 score. Third place went to Dario Laurence.
In the boys’ division two, it was Dylan Simeon who captured the title after claiming a 3-0 (11-8, 11-9, 11-6) victory over Mael Youpa. Jean-Yves Accouche was the third place finisher.
As for the boys’ division three, the victory went to Dylan Lafortune. Lafortune faced Divino Hoareau in the final, where he won 3-0 (11-9, 11-6, 11-7) to claim a first title of the year. In third position was Chris Esparon.
For the ladies, Zahira Khattab was the winner of the division one title after claiming a hard fought final victory over last year’s young female player of the year Lana Robert.
Robert started the better of the two, forcing Khattab to lose the first set 7-11. Khattab equalised the set scores though, winning the second set 11-8, but then lost the third set 9-11. She however regained her composure and managed to win the next two sets 11-5 and 11-9 to win the final on a 3-2 score. Kim Hoareau finished the competition in third place.
In the girls’ division two, it was Juliette Jupiter who finished as the winner, where she claimed a difficult 3-2 (11-4, 9-11, 13-11, 7-11, 11-6) victory over Fatima Boniface. Third place went to Emma Boniface.
