Volleyball - Seychelles men’s team relinquish their gold medal |08 August 2015
Will the women’s volleyball team win their final against Madagascar today?
It could be a tough question after the men’s side were good in just one set as they lost the final and the Indian Ocean Island Games gold medal to hosts Reunion.
Inside a packed Stade de l’Est in St Denis last night, the Seychelles men’s team, captained by Ian Furneau got off to a very good start as they won the opening set, but they could not match the Reunionnais in the other three.
The final score was 3-1 (22-25, 25-14, 25-17, 25-22) in favour of the Reunionnais who celebrated their victory as they played well tactically and technically to avenge their defeat registered in 2011 at the hands of the Seychellois.
The hope of a gold medal in team sports now rests on the women’s team and although they beat Madagascar in their first match they should not be complacent in front of their opponents.
