Youths rewarded for exemplary contributions |19 December 2015
Youths from several educational institutions and districts who have made vital and exemplary contributions in 2015 have been rewarded.
This National Youth Award ceremony has been organised by the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) in collaboration with the youth department in line with its policy to assist young people in meeting challenges, valorising achievements and creating opportunities.
The ceremony took place at the Savoy Resort and Spa in the presence of the principal secretary for youth Alain Volcère, chief executive of SNYC Alvin Laurence, youth representatives and youth workers in a convivial non-alcoholic gala evening.
There are two main categories: the positive youth image award given to one youth per secondary and post secondary school and the young animateurs award for youth activities in their respective districts.
For the positive youth image in secondary schools the award went to Clara Radegonde from Anse Royale school, Allisen Savy from English River school, Rennie Mondon from Pointe Larue school, Kelly Isnard from Plaisance school, Amina Furneau from Independent school, Abimaelle Onezime from International school and Kelly Telemaque from Mont Fleuri school.
For post secondary, Samia Victor from the Seychelles Agricultural and Horticultural Training Centre (SAHTC) received the award, followed by Stacy Leveiller from the Seychelles Tourism Academy (STA), Michelle Pool from the Seychelles Institute of Technology (SIT) and Julia Laporte from the School of Visual Arts.
The recipients of the young animateurs award are Rishanne Belize from Au Cap, Ted Legaie (Anse Aux Pins), Erica Gamatis (Anse Royale), Ketty Elisabeth (Anse Etoile), Alister Malvina (Anse Boileau), Mirella Vinda (Baie Lazare), Andy Brioche (Baie Ste Anne), Alvin Tirant (Bel Air), Angelique Pouponeau (Bel Ombre), Darel Bamboche (Cascade), Sheena Barbe (English River), Danise Lesperance (Glacis), Dino Quatre (Grand Anse Mahé), Leeroy Nicholas (Grand Anse Praslin), Dorah Radegonde (La Digue), Marvis Leon (Les Mamelles), Melvin Louis (Mont Buxton), Roy Rene (Mont Fleuri), Rojenta Gonthier (Plaisance), Alphius Franchette (Pointe Larue), Garell Jean (Port Glaud), Jean-Luc Crispin (Perseverance 1), Cheryle Labrosse (Perseverance 2), Eddie Julie (Roche Caiman), Romano Renaud (St Louis) and Craig Morel (Takamaka).
In his remarks, Mr Laurence said this proud life changing moment will help them move forward in their career or education and it is a way of saying thank you for the contribution they have made.
He said that next year they are taking this event to the next level as the youths will be coming up with ideas for the youth awards as the SNYC celebrates its 18th anniversary.
