Electricity tariff goes down by 21 cents |04 January 2016
Effective January 1, 2016, the electricity tariff has gone down by 21 cents.
This reduction is based on the fact that the weighted average fuel price charged to the Public Utilities Corporation (PUC) by the Seychelles Petroleum Company (Seypec) went down during the period October 16, 2015 to December 15, 2015, according to the chairman of the Seychelles Energy Board, Wills Agricole.
This reduction of 21 cents to the electricity tariff rate applies to all consumers and in all sectors.
It should be noted that all the savings made on fuel price during the period under review will be passed on to electricity customers who will be benefiting from new electricity tariff rates as of January 1, 2016.
“Therefore, for the month of January 2016, bills hand delivered by PUC meter readers will reflect the old rates for consumptions done both prior to and from the effective date of the new tariff. PUC will immediately afterwards recalculate customers’ bills, pro rata, to account for consumption from January 1, 2016 under the new rate,” Mr Agricole explained.
Electricity prices will drop, rise or stay the same quarterly depending on the prevailing cost of fuel.
The last time such an announcement was made was last October 2015.
The next review will be announced towards the end of March 2016.
