Independent School’s PTA to host car boot sale |12 March 2016

If one man’s junk is another man’s treasure, there will be plenty of both to be had at the Independent School’s Ile du Port campus on Sunday, March 20, when the school’s Parent-Teacher Association will be hosting a car boot sale.

The event aims to raise funds for the PTA’s activities, while at the same time providing a platform for the public to sell household wares and other items they no longer require, from the boots of their cars or trucks.

The Independent School’s PTA chairperson, Ineke Camille, said the event is open to the entire public from 10am to 2pm, for a day of fun in a family atmosphere, with several attractions, games and surprises, in addition to the sale itself. A football competition is also being organised at the playing field by the school’s Ile du Port campus.

“Every household accumulates things that over time just fall out of use,” Ms Camille said. “Kids get older, hobbies change, and before you know it you’ve got boxes and boxes of things gathering dust in storage. The car boot sale is a chance for people to actually profit from decluttering their home of the things they don’t use anymore, but could still be useful to others.”

For those who wish to be able to sell goods, all that’s required to register is a R200 cash fee – payable at the school on or before March 18. Same-day registration on the 20th should also be possible at a fee of R300, should space allow for additional cars.

Sellers do not have to be associated with the school, and whatever proceeds sellers make from their goods are theirs to keep. Licensed food vendors will also be allowed to set up at the venue. The popular Ton Pol’s Shack, known for its famous burgers, will be among the food vendors present.

Whether it’s for old books to read, children’s toys, kitchenware, or arts and crafts, the PTA urges the public to visit the sale and look for their own hidden treasures from amid the vendors.

Interested sellers are encouraged to register as early as possible at the school, or call 2520937 or 2620658 for more information.
