Karate: National Championship - Kimura Shukokai wins national championship |05 September 2016

Action from last weekend’s championships

The local karate school of Kimura Shukokai are the winners of the 2016 National Championship which was held on Saturday at the Roche Caiman Dojo.

Competitors from four karate schools took part in last weekend’s competition, where Kimura Shukokai were the winners in both the Kata and Kumite events.

Before the competition started however, the karatekas who will be representing Seychelles at the upcoming Indian Ocean Karate Championship in Mauritius, were presented with a cheque for R25,000 from the Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) Seychelles, which will help towards their stay in Mauritius.

Bernard Jackson, the managing director of MCB Seychelles, said: “We at MCB want to encourage everyone to take up sports as it helps to promote good values and discipline, which is why we continue to invest in various sports in the country.”

He added that since MCB is a bank that operates throughout the region, they find it necessary to help promote sports especially with regional competitions such as this.

As a show of appreciation, the Seychelles Karate Federation (SKF) presented Mr Jackson with a small token.

Back into the national championship, a good number of athletes had turned up and in the end those from the Kimura Shukokai School produced better performances, finishing with a total of 46 points in the Kata event and 34 points in Kumite to finish as the best school overall with 80 points in total.
