Letter to the Editor - Need to review issuing of permits to play loud music |26 April 2017
Please allow me a small space in your newspaper to share my frustration regarding the police issuing permits to play loud music.
Recently a new law regarding the control of noise pollution was introduced and being an elderly patient of hypertension and migraine I was very pleased.
Over the weekend my neighbour chose to play very loud music from Saturday morning until the early hours of Sunday and to put things in perspective, he owns a music system which is more suited to be played in a discotheque or for a large crowd during a public event. The music was so loud that it seemed it was being played in my house as it rattled my windows.
I phoned the police to complain and a very rude policewoman told me that the Commisioner of Police had issued a permit to my neighbour and slammed the phone. I thus had to endure that situation the entire evening.
I find it very irresponsible on the part of the Commisioner of Police to issue such a permit in a residential area and for that duration of time. I am sure that if a site visit had been conducted beforehand the permit would have not been issued taking into account the type of music set that was to be used which caused such a high level of noise pollution.
I urge the concerned authority to review the manner in which the police issue permits to play loud music taking into account that not everybody is civilised enough to understand the purpose of a music set.
