Educational holiday discoveries of YC members |12 May 2017
Thirty Young Citizens (YC) members from secondary schools got the chance to take part in a series of educational visits organised by the movement during the April holiday.
The visits aimed at helping the YC members discover what goes on at different work places and also help them in choosing their future career.
Kempinski Hotel – Baie Lazare

The visit took place on Monday April 24, 2017. Members were welcomed by Miss Junia, the training coordinator and Miss Cheryl, the human resource manager of the resort. Upon arrival at the hotel all YC members, facilitators and youth workers received a welcome drink. To start, the training coordinator gave a brief overview of the hotel. This was followed by a tour around the sections of the hotel. Members visited different restaurants, the pool, spa, library, kids’ corner etc… To end the visit all members gathered in the conference room so that they could raise any queries. There was also a small token offered to all participants from the hotel.
National Assembly ‒ Ile du Port
The YC members visited the National Assembly on Tuesday April 25, 2017. Upon arrival the group was warmly welcomed by Miss Samia Lebon and Mr Marcus Volcy. Miss Lebon then took the members on a tour of the building. The visit started with a brief overview of the functions of the assembly. This was followed by a visit inside the museum to view pictures of the past speakers, National Assembly members and gifts that different countries have offered the National Assembly. Mr Antoine Rose, the Sergeant at arms, explained his role in the assembly. He also clarified the functions of the MNAs, Speaker and other personnel during an assembly session. This was done in the national assembly chamber where sessions are conducted. YC members then relaxed with some snacks and refreshments. The visit ended with a group photo session in front of the Assembly building.
Sainte Anne Resort & Spa – Sainte Anne Island
The trip to Sainte Anne Island took place on Thursday April 27, 2017. YC members were welcomed on the island by Mrs Gorethie. To debut, a visit to different departments of the resort was conducted. This was followed by a nature walk where members got the chance to explore the flora and fauna of the island. This was also an opportunity for the group to see the ruins of the ex-National Youth Service village. The visit ended on the beach where members had snacks and refreshment and also enjoyed the sport services offered by the resort.
