Proposals invited for 2017 small grant disbursement
The Seychelles Women Trust Fund is accepting proposals on gender sensitive research or project that will have an impact on girls and women in Seychelles.
The Fund was set up by an Act established in 2011 to manage funds which are geared towards empowerment and advancement of women in the society.
The funds are received from the government and the Act allows the association to raise funds nationally and internationally.
During an interview with the press, the Seychelles Women Trust Fund secretary, Monica Servina, said their primary interest for the proposal is in alleviation of poverty but they are prepared to look at any other proposals.
“We are concerned with the statistics showing that poverty is higher for women so for this year we find this a big concern as we want to alleviate poverty but if there are other pertinent subjects they will be considered,” she said.
The research or project should benefit women to live free from fear, violence and discrimination, attain self-reliance, be respected and valued in society, achieve their personal goals and contribute to national development.
Past research projects funded by the Seychelles Women Trust Fund included studies on maternity services, women in shift work, and a comprehensive report on the status of women in Seychelles.
The Fund currently has four members including the chairperson Peggy Vidot, Christine Chetty, Mahrook Pardiwalla and Mrs Sevina.
She said the ministry of finance is in the process of appointing three new members.
Individuals, non-government organisations (NGOs) and training or research institutions can apply.
The deadline for submission of proposals for poverty alleviation is Saturday June 17, 2017 but the Fund accepts proposals all year round.
