African Dream project ends with volleyball clinic
Last year, a volleyball project was launched with the aim of identifying potential young volleyball stars of the future and now over a year later, it has come to an end.
The African Dream Project was launched in Seychelles on April 2016 and was conceived by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) president, Dr Ary Craca.
Last Saturday, the project came to an end with a volleyball clinic held at the NSC Hall and featured students from all schools on Mahé. The technical director of the National Sports Council (NSC), Bernard Denis, who was also responsible for bringing the project to Seychelles, said: “I have had the chance to visit a lot of African countries where this project is taking place and some of them have had great success, while others haven’t and to have over 100 children here this morning is big for us.”
“What we want is to see you grow and eventually replace the older players in the country and what we really want is to have an African country reach a podium place in the Olympic Games someday,” added Mr Denis.
The clinic held on Saturday was aided by the Neo Boys volleyball club as well and members of the Seychelles Volleyball Federation (SVF) technical committee and saw the children divided into groups spread out over six courts, where at each court they would have certain drills to complete.
The project itself targets children aged 8 to 14 years, whereby their potential is scientifically analysed and identified, in order to be able to better develop their skills to produce better players for the future.
