Ethiopian Airlines to increase frequency to Seychelles in December |02 June 2017
Ethiopian Airlines has announced the addition of a sixth weekly flight on the Seychelles route as of December 6, 2017.
Commenting on the decision, Ethiopian Airline’s chief commercial officer Busera Awel said it’s because of the airline’s commitment to offer convenient connectivity options to more than 54 African cities and he also cited the importance of air transport to the tourist appeal and for economic growth in general.
“Seychelles being Africa’s premier tourist destination, with the natural attractions of the archipelagos, we have now added a sixth weekly service to provide more options for passengers flying from any part of the world to Seychelles and vice versa through our strategic hub at Addis Ababa,” said Mr Awel.
“As per our growth strategy vision 2025, we shall continue to increase our presence in Africa, so as to better promote and facilitate growth in the business and tourism sectors,” he added.
Ethiopian Airlines started with three weekly flights to Seychelles on January 22, 2012 before withdrawing on March 1, 2014. The airline resumed the thrice-weekly services at the end of September 2014, adding a fourth flight in October 2015 and a fifth flight in December 2016.
Welcoming the announcement of a sixth weekly flight as of December 2017, Seychelles Tourism Board chief executive Sherin Francis said more flights to the destination means increased connectivity from the Seychelles’ source market, as well as choices and flexibility for visitors to the country’s shores.
“We are very happy with the news and the Seychelles Tourism Board pledges its support to ensure this added frequency is a success,” said Mrs Francis.
Ethiopian Airlines, Ethiopia’s national carrier, is one of the fastest growing and most profitable African airline which uses its strategic hub in Addis Ababa to fly to Seychelles and beyond.
The airline also offers special fares for tour packages to some of the major African tourist destinations such as Victoria Falls, Antananarivo, Guinea Conakry and Gaborone.
