Basketball - Mont Fleuri signs Benin international |07 June 2017
Mont Fleuri has bolstered their squad as they look to wrestle the women’s league title away from b Challenge and have recruited Benin international Aisha Kondoh.
Kondoh, singed from ASPAC, in Benin, was unveiled to the press yesterday at the Mont Fleuri court, where the team trains and she will be joining a team that are already challenging for the title and will hopefully be the missing piece as they look to win a first league title in quite a while.
“We have signed this player with not only Mont Fleuri in mind, but we expect to use Aisha to share her skills and experience with the youth, which will in turn boost the level of basketball in the country,” said Mont Fleuri’s team manager Faiz Ali.
Mr Ali added that Kondoh has already settled well with the team and she will make her debut during this weekend’s crunch clash with rivals B Challenge.
As for Kondoh, who is also the captain of Benin’s national team, she said; “I think the level here is quite low compared to Benin, but I hope that I can contribute to improving it, as I can see that the young players have a lot of potential and all they need is a bit of push to help them get to a higher level.”
Kondoh will be on a six months contract with Mont Fleuri, initially, after which depending on her performance, will be extended.
While being captain of the Benin National team, Kondoh was also captain of her club side and has twice won the title of Benin best female players (in 2014 and 2015).
“The manager and I have spoken and we have agreed that I will be working with the younger basketball players and I hope I can share my knowledge with them and hopefully help them to go to a higher level”, added Kondoh, who has only been training with Mont Fleur for two weeks.
Meanwhile, Mr Ali has also revealed that he is also planning to bring another top player to the club in the future, which he says should materialize by August.
