Better comfort for residents

The North East Point Home for the Elderly has received a set of 30 steel cushion chairs from the Seychelles Women’s Lion Club and the K.D. Pillay Soundara Vally Foundation.

The 30 chairs, which have cost around R8,000, were specifically chosen for the residents’ comfort.

It was a sponsorship from the K.D. Pillay Soundara Vally Foundation in remembrance of the late K. Deenadayalu Pillay (aka) Deenu who died in 2014.

The newly elected president of the Seychelles Centennial Women’s Lion Club Sashi Senthil Kumar and a representative of the K.D. Pillay Soundara Vally Foundation Senthil Kumar, presented the snug chairs to the acting chief executive of the Health Care Agency and director of the Seychelles Hospital Dr Kenneth Henriette.

The presentation took place in a small ceremony earlier this week at the North East Point Home for the Elderly in the presence of other health officials, members of the Seychelles Centennial Women’s Lion Club, members of the K.D. Pillay Soundara Vally Foundation and staff and residents of the North East Point Home for the Elderly.

Mrs Senthil Kumar said she hopes the donation will be well appreciated by the residents and that her club in collaboration with other partners will try to assist the home in any way possible in future.

Accepting the generous donation on behalf of the residents, Dr Henriette thanked the Seychelles Centennial Women’s Lion Club, the K.D. Pillay Soundara Vally Foundation and the Seychelles Lion’s Club in general for their continuous support to Seychelles Hospital and the Health Care Agency.

Senthil Kumar from the K.D. Pillay Soundara Vally Foundation said that the foundation is always happy to make such donations as its aim is to continue the legacy of the late K.D. Pillay who liked helping the community.

Stressing on the need for the residents to have the best comfortable furniture, the home’s nurse manager Anne Desir said the new chairs will replace many of the old ones currently being used.

She added that most chairs are expected to be swapped for new and comfortable ones by the end of the year and already, 75 more chairs, appraised by the director for Community Health Services, Nicolas Shamlaye, have been ordered.
