AGRICOLE … Commonwealth Championship gold medal
After claiming three gold medals at the African Championship earlier this year in Mauritius Clementina Agricole has added the Commonwealth Championship title to her name by claiming the -63kg category gold on Wednesday.
Taking place at the venue that will actually host the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, Agricole won the gold medal after lifting a total of 200kg (85 in snatch and 115 in clean & jerk) in the women’s -63kg category.
In snatch, Agricole’s first attempt was in fact at 85kg which she successfully lifted, but she then failed her attempts at 88kg and 90kg, leaving her first attempt as the only valid lift.
In clean & Jerk, Agricole first lifted 110kg successfully. After raising the bar to 115kg, Agricole failed to complete the lift, but she did manage to eventually lift the 115kg in her third attempt.
It has been a great year for Agricole as earlier this year she claimed three gold medals at the African Senior Weightlifting Championships in Mauritius.
Challenged by two Tunisians, an Algerian and a Malagasy inside the National Weightlifting Centre in Vacoas, two-time former Sportswoman of the Year Agricole lifted 86kg in snatch, and 107kg in clean & jerk for an Olympic total of 193kg to win three gold medals.
