Chatter Box brings coffeeinacone to Seychelles |04 October 2017

“We are the only country in the Indian Ocean which has Coffeeinacone.”

A representative of Chatterbox – a café at Eden Plaza of Eden Island which offers pre-cooked meals from South Africa – said this when the product was launched on Thursday evening.

The concept has become the latest Instagram food craze worldwide. The launch was a Coffeeinacone drinking ceremony where guests were invited to have a taste of the beverage. Some guests loved it instantly while others took their time to get used to the taste as it is a totally new coffee concept in Seychelles and most countries for that matter.

Coffeeinacone, developed by Dayne Levinrad, who owns The Grind Coffee Company in Johannesburg, was to bring some much needed innovation and excitement into the coffee industry worldwide. Dayne mastered his coffee skill in Australia for four years and has consulted in Brazil and America helping various coffee shops develop products.

Coffeeinacone is exactly what the name says: You can have your coffee as a Cappuccino or an Espresso in a chocolate coated Ice-Cream cone. The cone is coated in a special chocolate compound made from various types of cacao in order to make it leak-proof. Customers have around 10 minutes to drink from the cone before all the chocolate melts.

Chatterbox normally offers freshly-made coffee from the Illy brand, the Italian coffee roasting company specialising in the production of Espresso. That coffee is complemented with sandwiches, salads, desserts, cakes, waffles, ice-creams, pizzas and Italian food.

Since launching in January 2016, nearly 1 million images with the #coffeeinacone hashtag have been liked on the picture-sharing social media site. But while the idea is simple – serve coffee in an ice cream cone lined with chocolate – Levinrad says the science behind his creation is not. And as people love ice cream, coffee and chocolate, says the former digital marketing executive, so he decided to serve all three at once.

For a country to launch such a brand it must have the market, the capacity to consume the products and the country has to sell millions of coffees per year to be a distributor as it is a highly sought-after type of coffee.

A spokesperson from Chatter box talks about Coffeeinacone: “It is the world’s most photographed and famous coffee in the world. It took the world by storm and was mentioned in major news (networks) in the world like CNN, BBC, and in Australia,” he said.

He added when Chatterbox approached the owner, they said Seychelles is too small, it does not have the sales volume and there’s no profit to gain from sending this product here.

“He basically told me we are insignificant. I proposed that Seychelles is a niche market. We don’t have the masses but we got the class. So I convinced him to bring this product to Seychelles. We are the only country in the Indian Ocean who has Coffeeinacone.”

The product got rave reviews from major news organisations like CNN, Daily Mail, news.com.au, Insider and Metro… to name some.
