MCB makes donation of books to Ministry of Education |18 October 2017
The Ministry of Education has received a generous donation of reference books from the Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) Seychelles.
The donation worth R240,000 includes geography reference books for use by secondary school teachers as well as Collins atlases and junior dictionaries for use by the students.
The books have been funded under the MCB Corporate Responsibility Tax and were specifically chosen by the officers from the Centre for Curriculum, Assessment and Teacher Support (CCATS).
The books were handed over by MCB Seychelles managing director (MD) Bernard Jackson to the principal secretary for human resource development Dr Linda Barrallon in a small ceremony yesterday afternoon in the minister’s conference room.
Also present were high officials from the Ministry of Education and MCB Seychelles staff members.
Handing over the donation Mr Jackson stated that a book is an important element in developing children’s abilities to enhance their knowledge.
“At MCB Seychelles we take great pride in giving back to the community, so what better way than to contribute to the education of the future generation. Books are carriers of knowledge, so MCB Seychelles is proud to contribute towards the education of Seychelles,” he said.
Thanking MCB Seychelles for the generous donation, PS Barrallon said that the ministry needed some books to further the education of the students.
“It is an immense honour to receive such donation, which is an enormous contribution for our students and teachers; it will empower our students and enhance the quality of learning. It is always a good gesture when private sectors donate to the government of Seychelles,” she said.
