President Faure starts State visit to Mauritius |27 October 2017

 

President Danny Faure arrived in Mauritius yesterday afternoon at the start of a four-day State visit.

He was welcomed at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport by Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth and Lady Kobita Jugnauth as well as a large delegation of Mauritian dignitaries.

After President Faure had inspected a guard of honour and been introduced to other Mauritian dignitaries, he received all the honours, pomp and ceremony and a 21 gun salute.

Following the ceremony at the airport, President Faure went directly to State House at Le Réduit for a courtesy call on his Mauritian counterpart, Her Excellency Ameenah Gurib-Fakim.

The two presidents had a short friendly exchange after which they proceeded to sign the visitors’ book and gathered for a souvenir photo.

President Faure left Le Réduit accompanied by the Vice-Prime Minister Showkutally Soodhun who is also the Minister for Housing and Lands.

Yesterday evening President Faure was the guest of honour at a banquet at Le Méridien Hotel, Pointe aux Piments, hosted by Lady Kobita Jugnauth.

This morning President Faure will hold a tête-à-tête with Prime Minister Jugnauth at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis and this will be followed by a working session.

This will be followed by the signing of memoranda of understanding between both parties.

Afterwards both President Faure and Prime Minister Jugnauth will give a statement to the press.

President Faure will then visit the Aapravasi Ghat world heritage site in Port Louis, followed by a lunch offered by President Gurib-Fakim at the State House, Le Réduit.

In the evening the Chief Justice, Keshoe Parsad Matadeen, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Santi Bai Hanoomanjee, and the leader of the opposition, Xavier-Luc Duval, will call on President Faure at Trou aux Biches Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa.

Tomorrow, President Faure will visit EON Reality Mauritius Regional Headquarters and Entrepreneur School at Ebène. From there he will visit Le Morne cultural landscape and Unesco world heritage site.

The Seychelles delegation will leave Mauritius on Sunday October 29, 2017.

President Faure is  accompanied on this first State visit to sister neighbour Mauritius by a 23-member  delegation comprising the Minister for Family Affairs Jeanne Simeon, key officials from his office,  members of the National Assembly, chairperson of the Seychelles Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), a representative of Citizens Engagement Platform Seychelles (Ceps) among others.
